Chalk East is building exciting partnership projects in the region. Click here for Project Outline Document 2009 (1.25mb PDF). We are seeking creative way is to interpret the Chalk to a new audience through partnership working.

Chalk East can offer you support through:

  • Inspiration and expertise - advice from Geo-East specialists in chalk geodiversity

  • Funding - channeling funds to support project work

  • Graphic identity - an attractive and distinctive badge for the project 'umbrella'

  • Web presence - the facilities of this website, including the Geo-East discussion forum

  • Co-ordination - the services of a paid co-ordinator to help support project delivery

Ideas For Chalk-East Projects

Here are some ideas for ways to engage people with Chalk geodiversity: 

'Turf Art'

Artists working with community groups to design and cut chalk turf shapes, e.g. figures, maze...

'Old as the Hills'

A leaflet about the chalk landscape, its sites and features, and other places to visit like museums...

'Larks on the Downs', or
'The Joy of Chalk'

Themed walks, talks or geo-expeditions by outdoor rangers, local societies...

'The Water Bearer'

Interpreting the importance of Chalk to our water supply, through a leaflet, open days at pumping stations, field trips...

'Quick Lime Slow Burn'

Making and firing a demonstration lime-kiln; using the lime produced for construction projects...

'Life in the Cretaceous'

Specialist events explaining life in the Cretaceous through fossils and the Cretaceous 'greenhouse world'...

'Delve into the Chalk'

Themed discovery days at museums with Chalk collections...

'Into the Dark'

Interpreting the Chalk underworld through leaflets about or visits to dene holes, chalk and, flint mines, swallow holes, artificial caves...

'Chalk Fossil Detectives'

Investigating chalk fossils at a museum and making videos e.g. ‘My Favourite Chalk Fossil’ for YouTube...

'Chalk Up'

Educational resources for schools, e.g. Science-Art-Writing projects bringing Chalk scientists, artists and poets into the classroom...
